American Horror Story: Coven Episode 3.10 'The Magical Delights of Stevie Nicks' & Episode 3.11 'Protect the Coven'

Episode 10 - The Magical Delights of Stevie

Fiona attempts to out the new Supreme with a visit from Stevie Nicks. Cordelia learns the truth about Hank and the Witch Hunters. Madison tries to eliminate her competition for the Supremacy.
The Magical Delights of Stevie Nicks played like a filler that was only there to slow the story down a pace or two. I have seen enough TV Shows to be able to identify when the writers are just doing something not just for the sake of doing it, but for the sake of slowing the narrative down just because things are moving too fast.

Although this episode proved to be one of the most pointless of the series yet, it still featured some very strong aspects that was played out with craft. The scenes with Fiona and Leveau are absolutely fantastic, and the chemistry between the pair could have dominated the entire episode alone. Unfortunately though, a new villain was introduced and the narrative was made even more complicated, as well as a few inept scenes that felt unnecessary and rushed. Luckily though there are a few shocking moments which I could bet many never seen coming; the main one being the sudden death of Nan who, by this episode seemed to have turned into something just as evil as next witch as she makes Joan down a large bottle of bleach. Raw, just how she liked it.

Although the episode felt woefully unnecessary  especially due to all the waffle about Stevie Nicks. Luckily the dynamic between Fiona and Leveau save the episode, as well as a couple of surprising goodbyes; Well, one which I don't think will be permanent.

Episode 11 - Protect the Coven
Fiona and Laveau have a deadly face off with The Corporation. Cordelia makes a desperate sacrifice to protect the Coven.
After last weeks mishap of basing an episode around Stevie Nicks and forgetting about the main focus we waited for over the Christmas holidays it was good to see a refreshing return-to-form for the show. Regardless of its lack of surprises, Episode 11 Protect the Coven was as sharp as it was wicked.

The return-to-form was brought around from the return of the cast, and never before has the show been so packed with faces without it becoming cluttered and annoying. In fact, it was the complete opposite. The humor made another welcomed return in a few moments, and the taut moments between the cast just made the episode that bit more delicious. The return of LaLaurie led to yet another fantastic scene between her Leveau and Fiona, but that was a given after the result of Laveau joining the coven. Again as said before, the chemistry between Lange and Bassett is absolutely fantastic, and when they're on screen together, you don't get much better than that.

Although it did lack some substance, 'Protect the Coven' proved to be as strong as ever, displaying that you don't need a death to make something interesting. Well, that isn't entirely true judging by one scene in particular that seen the Ax man chopping his way through the group of witch hunters whilst Laveau sat back an video'd it on her iPhone. Now, if that isn't comedy then I don't know what is.
