It is hard to say that the Cabin Fever title has come a long way from where it originated, and it's easier to say that it has come a long way from being original which seems a lot more accurate. We seen Eli Roth's fresh and inventive horror that presented isolation and disease as everyone's new fear, Cabin Fever 2 which was as tasteless as the endless Jason films, and felt more like a disease-ridden Carrie than a follow up to a modern classic horror tale. Cabin Fever 2, to put it simply sucked, so it should not be to anyone surprise that I was hesitant when going into this one, and I can safely say that it is an early entry as the Worst Horror of 2014. Bear in mind I am yet to see I, Frankenstein and I heard that it was simply awful so the bet isn't firmly sealed just yet.

Cabin Fever 3 (Patient Zero) is as money-grabbing and pointless as it gets. Perhaps money-grabbing is used in the incorrect term given that the franchise has a bigger fan base than the Killjoy movies, but we all know that this was simply made to bring in cash (if little) and to unknowingly prove that it takes more than excessive gore to please an audience. As expected, A sequel of this caliber lacks any depth beyond its gory facade, and doesn't seem to get the picture that a bitch battle that involves girls tearing each others skin off isn't enough in making a film worth watching. It is clear that Andrews and Wade Wall focused on the blueprint of Cabin 2 and not of the first, as the same silly gore, humor and characters are all resurrected in this largely woeful attempt to follow an even worse sequel. It's just like Reeker 2 following Reeker 1, a film that shouldn't even have been made in the first place.

Patient Zero has little ambition, but had a fair amount of room to make the wit work to full effect, however the daft acting and the messy plot restrict the film from being fun which could have been the film's strongest aspect. A minor appreciation goes to the effects that prove strong for a film that is tacked together by recycled ideas, and although the effects (which were mostly practical) weren't exactly "top notch", being able to pull off a skin ripping scene without it becoming completely useless is almost an achievement in itself. To put it as bluntly as possible, Cabin Fever 3 was an almost entirely pointless sequel that just wanted to elaborate on an already tedious idea, just to then reinforce the audience in believing that all straight-to-video sequels really do suck.

VERDICT: Aside from the odd humorous beat, Cabin Fever: Patient Zero to put simply is nothing but Snore Gore.
